Support for postal workers having Saturday’s off
Dear Mr. Ghany,
Our union, which represents 47 thousand postal worker in Pakistan , would like to express our support for members of the independent Egyptian postal union who are struggling to maintain a two-day weekend with Saturday’s off. We urge you to ensure postal workers keep a two-day weekend with no penalty in compensation.
We understand that the Minister of State for Administrative Development issued a decision that all public sector staff should have Friday’s and Saturday’s off work. We are concerned that Egypt Post has not applied this decision to postal workers who are also public sector employees.
We understand that you signed an agreement with the independent postal union following the postal strike in September 2011 about having Saturday’s off. This agreement was implemented on January 1, 2012. We encourage you to reconsider your decision to rescind this agreement. Workers need a healthy work-life balance and this includes adequate time off.
Again, we urge you to work with the independent postal unions in Egypt to foster secure and decent work for postal workers. We urge you to ensure postal workers have a two-day weekend without any penalty in compensation.
Sincerely,
ASAD ULLAH KHAN
